On-site power control for DC fast charging

Run more DC fast chargers on the same grid connection

Capacity Optimizer is an on-site industrial power controller that monitors total site load and dynamically controls each DC fast charger via Modbus—keeping you within grid limits while maximizing charging throughput.

  • Use existing grid capacity better with dynamic power allocation.
  • Prevent overloads and nuisance trips by enforcing configured limits.
  • Robust on-site control that keeps working even if the cloud doesn’t.

How Capacity Optimizer controls your site power

Capacity Optimizer forms a closed control loop between your site main meter and your DC fast chargers. It measures total load, applies your limits and priorities, and sends updated setpoints to each charger in real time.

1

Measure total site load

Reads real-time power from the site main meter or gateway, including building loads where applicable.

2

Read charger status via Modbus

Polls each DC fast charger over Modbus for status, available power, and active sessions.

3

Apply limits & priorities

Uses configured site, feeder, and group limits plus priority rules to determine the safe power budget.

4

Send setpoints to chargers

Writes updated power or current setpoints to each charger, balancing power across active sessions.

5

Monitor & fail over safely

Continuously monitors conditions and follows defined fallback behavior if communication or hardware fails.

How Capacity Optimizer fits into your site

The controller sits between your grid connection, main meter, and DC fast chargers. It uses meter feedback, charger status, and optional BESS/PV inputs to compute safe power allocations and send Modbus setpoints.

Where Capacity Optimizer delivers the most value

The controller is built for sites where grid capacity is tight, loads are high, and uptime matters.

Public DC fast charging hubs

Operate multiple high-power chargers on constrained connections. Replace fixed per-charger limits with dynamic allocation to support more sessions without immediate grid upgrades.

Fleet depots & logistics hubs

Ensure time-critical vehicles charge on time while staying within site limits. Use priority rules to favor specific bays, fleets, or departure windows.

Retail, parking & mixed-use sites

Share capacity safely between building load and fast chargers. Track total site consumption and automatically adjust charging power to protect the main connection.

Heavy vehicle & truck charging

Keep feeders within limits even when several high-current vehicles charge simultaneously. Reduce nuisance trips and manual interventions.

Sites with BESS & PV

Coordinate grid import, battery power, and solar to support high charging demand while honoring all configured constraints.

Staged site expansions

Scale from a few chargers to larger hubs with one consistent power control layer, instead of redesigning control logic at each step.

Key features

Capacity Optimizer provides a focused feature set for controlling power at DC fast charging sites, from real-time balancing to peak shaving and scheduled charging windows.

Real-time load balancing

Dynamic distribution of available power across all active chargers.

Priority rules

Configurable priority between chargers, bays, or groups such as fleets and trucks.

Grid limit enforcement

Adapts to total site consumption to keep within configured kW/kVA limits.

Offline resilience

Local installation and control logic that continue operating without cloud connectivity.

Expandable & scalable

Supports small to large charging sites and staged expansions over time.

Peak shaving

Limits peak site power by throttling chargers when total load approaches configured ceilings.

Scheduled charging behavior

Supports time-based rules for how aggressively chargers can draw power in different time windows.

BESS/PV integrations

Integrates with battery energy storage systems and solar PV to coordinate grid import, battery power, and renewable generation.

Cloud monitoring

Optional cloud portal for remote configuration, real-time monitoring, historical data, and system alerts.

About CapOpt AB

Capacity Optimizer is developed and fully owned by CapOpt AB, a team with decades of experience in mission-critical software and over seven years focused on EV charging and smart energy systems.

We have built and operated complex platforms in demanding environments, from scalable backend systems to energy control applications. That background shapes how we design Capacity Optimizer: robust, predictable, and straightforward for installers and operators.

We work closely with charging operators, OEMs, and integrators to adapt to real-world constraints—mixed hardware fleets, evolving sites, and tight timelines.
